Rankin County honors school resource officers on National School Resource Officer Day
Today is National School Resource Officer Day, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department and the Rankin County School District said in a joint Facebook post, praising officers assigned to local schools for their dedication to student safety.
The agencies said they are privileged to have SROs who are committed to the safety of schools and children and that they are “continually grateful for their diligent service.” The post noted the importance of recognizing the work SROs perform in communities.
School resource officers are law enforcement personnel assigned to schools who often serve as first responders, provide security, and work to build relationships with students, staff and families. Districts and law enforcement agencies nationwide mark the observance to acknowledge the role SROs play in school safety and community engagement.
The recognition highlights ongoing discussions about best practices for school security, training and the relationship between schools and law enforcement. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
