Jackson police and sheriff condemn hate attack at Beth Israel

Jackson Police Chief Tyree D. Jones and Hinds County Sheriff Tyree D. Jones issued a joint statement condemning an attack at Beth Israel synagogue.

Jones called the incident unacceptable and said it harms the entire community. He emphasized that hate and religious intolerance will not be tolerated in Jackson.

The officials noted that the attack affected more than one congregation and threatened community safety. They praised officers’ quick response, which included collaboration with the Jackson Fire Department, its Arson Investigation Division, and federal partners.

As a result of their coordinated efforts, a suspect was taken into custody, and the investigation continues, the statement said.

Jones assured the Jewish community that the Jackson Police Department stands with them and will protect their safety. He pledged to hold anyone spreading fear or hatred accountable.

Jones signed the statement as both police chief and sheriff.
