Citizens Police Academy hears Traffic and K-9 briefing from Support Services

Participants at last night’s Citizens Police Academy class heard from Captain Davis and Lieutenant Bramlett of the Support Services Division, who discussed traffic operations and K-9 unit responsibilities, according to a department Facebook post.

Presenters reviewed the role of the motor unit, accident reconstruction and procedures for crash-scene and digital evidence collection. Officers Henry and Reese demonstrated how their K-9 partners, Zorro and Nico, assist in narcotics searches, apprehending fleeing suspects and vehicle entry, the post said.

The Citizens Police Academy is a community outreach program many departments use to familiarize residents with police operations, procedures and specialized units. Support services typically coordinates units such as traffic, K-9 and other specialized teams that handle investigations, scene management and technical evidence work.

Officials and organizers say sessions like the academy aim to increase transparency, improve public understanding of law enforcement tactics and strengthen community relationships. Dinner for attendees was provided by Akita Sushi & Hibachi Steakhouse, the post said.

Details in the post were limited. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
