Toppers sweep ABAC; Harrison sets single-season stolen-base record

Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University swept Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in a softball doubleheader Friday, beating ABAC 8-1 and 5-0 at the BMCU Sportsplex, the school said. The wins improved the Toppers to 2-2 in Southern States Athletic Conference play.

The first game featured a 14-hit attack and aggressive base running in an 8-1 victory. Mikaylah Fuqua went 4-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, and Aspen Teague was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run. Anna Harrison went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. The Toppers stole eight bases in the game; Fuqua had three and Harrison had two.

Madison Montgomery pitched a complete game in the opener, allowing one run on three hits, striking out four and issuing no walks to earn the victory, the release said.

Blue Mountain totaled 14 hits again in the nightcap and posted a 5-0 shutout. Fuqua was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, Teague went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Harrison was 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. Harrison’s steal was her 37th of the season, breaking the BMCU single-season stolen-base record, the school reported.

Neely Cooper pitched a complete-game shutout in the second game, allowing seven hits and striking out two. Kelsey Camp and Lakyn Nichols each had two hits in the finale, and Bre Ramsey and Nichols drove in runs.

The Toppers return to action Saturday at Brewton-Parker Christian University at 1:00 p.m. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
