Toppers sweep ABAC, Harrison sets single-season stolen-base record
Blue Mountain Christian University swept Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 8-1 and 5-0 on Friday at the BMCU Sportsplex, and Anna Harrison set the BMCU single-season stolen-base record with her 37th steal, the school said.
In the opener, the Toppers collected 14 hits in an 8-1 victory. Mikaylah Fuqua went 4-for-4 with three runs and one RBI, and Aspen Teague was 3-for-3 with a double, one RBI and a run. Harrison went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Blue Mountain stole eight bases in the game. Madison Montgomery threw a complete game, allowing one run on three hits, striking out four and issuing no walks, BMCU reported.
Blue Mountain again totaled 14 hits in the nightcap and blanked ABAC 5-0. Fuqua was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, and Teague went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Harrison had two hits, scored a run and stole one base to reach the program mark. Kelsey Camp and Lakyn Nichols each had two hits; Nichols added an RBI. Neely Cooper pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing seven hits and striking out two, the school said.
The sweep improved the Toppers to 2-2 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. The SSAC is the conference comprising colleges across the southeastern United States. Blue Mountain is scheduled to play Brewton-Parker Christian University on Saturday at 1 p.m., according to the team schedule.
