Toppers split SSAC series with Point
WEST POINT, Ga. — Blue Mountain Christian split a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader with Point on Saturday, dropping the opener 6-3 before rallying for a 6-0 victory in game two, the school’s athletics website said.
In the first game, Mikaylah Fuqua reached and later scored on an RBI double from Aspen Teague in the first inning to give the Toppers an early lead. Neely Barrier extended the advantage with a sacrifice fly in the third, but Point answered with a big third inning and added another run in the fourth to take the lead.
Bre Ramsey drove in Kelsey Camp with an RBI single in the sixth as Blue Mountain Christian continued to battle. Ramsey finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double. Teague had two RBIs, and Fuqua drew two walks and stole two bases. Gail Wisher started, and Janna Shaw relieved, allowing one run over 3.1 innings with three strikeouts, the release said.
The Toppers broke the second game open in the fifth inning, when Teague hit a two-RBI triple that scored Fuqua and Anna Harrison. Camp followed with an RBI double and Blue Mountain Christian added two more runs later in the inning. Harrison scored again in the sixth to make it 6-0.
Teague finished game two with two hits and two RBIs, Camp had two RBIs, and Harrison scored twice. Bri Langley tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing three hits and striking out six to earn the win, the athletics site reported. Fuqua, Karen Wisher, Chloe Shelton and Barrier also recorded hits in the victory.
Blue Mountain Christian is scheduled to play at Thomas University on Saturday and will look to carry momentum from the second game into the remainder of SSAC play. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
