Toppers split doubleheader, earn first win

ATHENS, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian split a road doubleheader Friday, earning its first win of the season with a 9-6 victory in the opener before dropping the nightcap 12-2, the school’s athletics department said.

The Toppers showed depth and timely offense in the first game, while the second contest presented challenges against a strong Tennessee Wesleyan lineup, the release said.

Doubleheaders early in the season often test a team’s pitching depth and depth on the bench, and Friday’s split highlighted both the positives and the areas needing improvement for Blue Mountain Christian.

The result gives the Toppers momentum from the opener and serves as a reminder of the swings that can come in back-to-back games. The split also provides early-season data for coaches as the team prepares for upcoming regional opponents.
