Toppers score 19, beat Brewton-Parker in series finale
MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — Blue Mountain Christian exploded for 19 runs and beat Brewton-Parker Christian 19-8 on Saturday to close out the SSAC series in Mount Vernon.
Blue Mountain Christian produced 17 hits and four home runs as its offense found a rhythm after two difficult games earlier in the series, the school’s athletics department reported. Jake Meilstrup led the attack, going 2-for-6 with three runs, six RBIs, a triple and a home run. Jacob Bryant finished 3-for-6 with two runs, three RBIs, a double and a home run.
Gates Gerhart went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBIs, two walks and a stolen base. Garret Lance was 2-for-5 with three runs, two RBIs and a home run. Gavin Foley and Cody Presley contributed multi-hit games, and Ross Polizzi, Jarrett Morris and Yaidel Perez added key RBIs to a balanced lineup.
On the mound, Benji Webb picked up the win, working 6.1 innings while allowing 11 hits, eight runs (four earned), one walk and striking out seven, according to the school. Christian Manness threw 2.2 scoreless innings in relief, yielding one hit and striking out one to finish the game. Blue Mountain Christian will play at University of Mobile on Friday, March 13.
