Toppers rally past No. 2 GGC, win 6-5

Blue Mountain Christian rallied from an early deficit to beat No. 2 GGC 6-5 on Friday at the BMCU Sportsplex in Blue Mountain, Miss., the school reported.

GGC opened with a four-run first inning, but the Toppers chipped away and tied the game before taking the lead. Blue Mountain Christian scored in the second and answered after GGC added a run in the third with a multi-run inning that kept the game close.

A solo home run in the fifth pulled the Toppers within one and they evened the score in the sixth. With the game tied late, Blue Mountain Christian pushed the decisive run across in the seventh to complete the comeback against the nation’s second-ranked team.

Offensively, Cody Presley had four hits, including extra-base hits, and drove in a run. Jake Meilstrup had three hits, scored two runs and hit a solo home run. Ross Polizzi hit a two-RBI double, and Jarret Morris and Garret Lance each recorded an RBI. On the mound, Christian Manness earned the win with eight strong innings of relief, allowing one run and striking out seven as the bullpen held GGC the rest of the way.

Blue Mountain Christian is scheduled to play Crowleys Ridge College on Feb. 24. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
