Toppers lose twice after competitive day in Little Rock
Little Rock, Ark. — The BMCU men’s tennis team opened against Texas A&M–Texarkana and closed the afternoon with John Brown University, dropping the two matches 0-7 and 4-3, respectively, BMCU athletics said.
Against Texas A&M–Texarkana, BMCU lost all three doubles matches. Adriaan Engelbrecht and Kevin Kotzé fell 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, Craig Blevins and Caleb Rogers lost 6-0 at No. 2, and Pablo Cruz and Luis Lainer were defeated 6-3 at No. 3. Singles play continued in Texarkana’s favor with Engelbrecht falling 6-3, 6-3; Cruz 6-1, 6-0; Kotzé 6-1, 6-2; Lainer 6-0, 6-1; and Blevins 6-2, 6-0.
BMCU responded more competitively against John Brown. Engelbrecht and Kotzé dropped 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, Blevins and Maj Langerholz fell 6-1 at No. 2, and Cruz and Lainer lost 6-3 at No. 3. In singles, Engelbrecht won 6-2, 6-3; Cruz won 6-0, 7-5; and Caleb Rogers secured a point with a 7-4 tiebreaker. Kotzé and Blevins each reached deciding tiebreakers but lost 10-7, and Lainer dropped his match 7-5, 6-1.
BMCU athletics said the close finish against John Brown reflected the Toppers’ fight and growth over the day and provided valuable experience against strong opponents. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
