Toppers fall to Thomas 13-2 in SSAC finale

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Blue Mountain Christian University’s Toppers fell to the Thomas Nighthawks 13-2 in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) series finale on Saturday, according to Blue Mountain Christian athletics.

Thomas built an early advantage, scoring four runs in the second inning and five more in the third. The Nighthawks added another run in the fourth to extend their lead before the Toppers reached the scoreboard in the fifth.

Cody Presley delivered a run-scoring single through the left side in the fifth to plate Gavin Foley. Blue Mountain Christian added another run in the sixth when Jake Meilstrup hit an RBI single to center field that scored Jarrett Morris. Presley and Meilstrup each recorded RBIs, while Jacob Bryant and Foley helped create opportunities on the bases, the release said.

Benji Webb took the loss, allowing multiple runs over 2.1 innings with one strikeout. Christian Maness followed in relief. Chip Harris struck out two batters during his inning, and Judson Griffin and Jesse Hancock also appeared; Hancock recorded a scoreless frame and a strikeout. Blue Mountain Christian is scheduled to play Freed-Hardeman University on March 31. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
