Toppers fall to Barons in SSAC game

Mount Vernon, Ga. — Blue Mountain Christian University fell 77-62 to Brewton-Parker Christian on Tuesday in a Southern States Athletic Conference game, the school said.

The Toppers traded early baskets with the Barons and held a brief lead in the first half, but Brewton-Parker carried momentum into the locker room and extended it after intermission. Blue Mountain Christian kept the game within reach at times, including a late first-half push, but turnovers allowed the Barons to expand the margin down the stretch.

Junior forward Gavin Shannon led the Toppers with 25 points. Guard Jonathan Baker added 16 points and nine assists while directing the offense. Michael Hill scored seven points, and Esrael Yant finished with six points and seven rebounds. Chris Carter scored three and R.J. Robinson had two points.

Shannon’s late three-pointer sparked a brief run that energized the bench and crowd, but Brewton-Parker maintained control in the closing minutes. Blue Mountain Christian returns home Thursday to face Life University’s Running Eagles at 7:30 p.m.
