Toppers fall in doubleheader against Brewton-Parker
MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — Blue Mountain Christian’s athletics department reported Friday that the Toppers dropped both games of a Southern States Athletic Conference series opener against Brewton-Parker Christian University, losing 7-1 and 17-8.
In the opener, Brewton-Parker seized momentum with a four-run first inning and extended its lead on a three-run home run in the fifth. Blue Mountain Christian got on the board in the sixth when Jacob Bryant hit a solo home run, but the early surge by the Barons proved decisive in the 7-1 final.
Game two began in Blue Mountain Christian’s favor as Ross Polizzi produced a sacrifice fly in the first to score Jake Meilstrup. Brewton-Parker built an 8-1 lead through three innings, but the Toppers rallied: Yaidel Perez drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the fourth and later scored on a fielding error, Bryant hit a solo home run in the seventh and Perez added another solo shot in the eighth. A late RBI double by Polizzi pulled the Toppers within 9-8 before Brewton-Parker answered with an eight-run eighth highlighted by a three-run homer from Fred Diaz.
Bryant finished with home runs in both games, and Perez and Polizzi also supplied key run production for Blue Mountain Christian. The series concludes Saturday in Mount Vernon. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
