Toppers fall in double-overtime thriller to Tennessee Southern

Blue Mountain Christian fell 94-93 to Tennessee Southern in double overtime Saturday at the Curry Athletic Complex in Pulaski, Tennessee, the school’s athletics department said. The Southern States Athletic Conference game stretched to two extra periods before Tennessee Southern converted late in the second overtime to secure the one-point decision.

Tennessee Southern controlled much of the early action, building separation through efficient offense, the release said. Blue Mountain Christian chipped away late in regulation, tightening its defense and finding offensive rhythm to force overtime.

Senior guard Gavin Shannon led the Toppers with 31 points. Michael Hill added 23 points, Jonathan Baker had 12 and Chris Tackett scored 11 off the bench, the release said. The balanced scoring and bench production helped fuel the comeback that extended the game into extra time.

Neither team was able to break through during the first overtime, sending the contest to a second extra period where each possession carried added weight, the athletics department said. Tennessee Southern made the decisive play late in the second overtime to claim the 94-93 victory.

The Toppers host Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for senior night on Monday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
