Toppers earn road victory at Bethel
McKenzie, Tennessee — Blue Mountain Christian beat Bethel 5-4 on Tuesday in a nine-inning game, the school’s athletics department said.
The Toppers took an early lead in the first inning when Ross Polizzi drove in Jake Meilstrup with an RBI single. Bethel tied the game in the fourth, but Cody Presley delivered a two-RBI single in the fifth to put Blue Mountain Christian ahead 3-1.
Bethel scored two in the sixth to even the score at 3-3. Blue Mountain Christian regained the lead in the seventh when Gates Gerhart drew a bases-loaded walk to force home Jacob Bryant. Ethan Hirons added an insurance run in the eighth, and Bethel’s sacrifice fly in the ninth made it 5-4 before Nolan Wood closed out the game.
The Toppers finished with 10 hits. Hirons went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Presley drove in two runs, Polizzi and Gerhart each had an RBI, and Bryant hit a double, the athletics department said.
On the mound, Caden Moore started and worked three scoreless innings. Jabari Farr earned the win in relief, and Nolan Wood recorded the save with two innings of work. Blue Mountain Christian is scheduled to play at Faulkner University on April 10 at 6 p.m., the school reported.
