Toppers earn road victory against Bethel

McKenzie, Tennessee — Blue Mountain Christian University beat Bethel 5-4 Tuesday in a nine-inning road game, the school said.

The Toppers opened the scoring in the first when Ross Polizzi drove in Jake Meilstrup with an RBI single. Bethel tied the game in the fourth, but Blue Mountain Christian regained the lead in the fifth when Cody Presley delivered a two-RBI single that scored Jacob Bryant and Ethan Hirons.

Bethel rallied for two runs in the sixth to knot the game at 3-3. Blue Mountain Christian went back ahead in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Gates Gerhart that forced home Bryant, and added an insurance run in the eighth when Hirons scored to make it 5-3.

Bethel cut the lead to 5-4 with a sacrifice fly in the ninth, but Nolan Wood closed out the game for the save. Blue Mountain Christian finished with 10 hits; Hirons went 2-for-4 with two runs, Presley had two RBIs, and Jacob Bryant recorded a double.

On the mound, Caden Moore started and tossed three scoreless innings. Jabari Farr earned the win in relief, and Wood worked two innings for the save, the school said. Blue Mountain Christian visits Faulkner University on April 10, the athletics department reported.
