Toppers drop series finale to No. 14 Loyola

Blue Mountain Christian dropped the series finale to No. 14 Loyola 6-3 on Saturday in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, completing a three-game sweep for the Wolf Pack, according to Blue Mountain Christian athletics.

Loyola opened the game with a two-run home run by Nathan McDonald in the first and added an RBI single by Jed Cambre in the second to take a 3-0 lead. The Toppers answered in the second when Garret Lance drove in Cody Presley with an RBI single.

Blue Mountain Christian closed the gap in the third as Jacob Bryant doubled to score Jake Meilstrup, and Reise Thomas tied the game in the fourth with a single that brought home Jarrett Morris. The game remained deadlocked until the eighth.

In the eighth, Cambre delivered a two-run triple to put Loyola ahead 5-3, and an unearned run later in the inning pushed the lead to the final margin. The Toppers finished with nine hits; Bryant went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Presley and Gavin Foley each had two hits, and Lance and Thomas each drove in a run.

On the mound, Benji Webb (4-3) worked 7 2/3 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts and six walks. Christian Maness recorded 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief with one strikeout. Blue Mountain Christian will play at Bethel University (Tenn.) on April 7.
