Toppers drop first two games of SSAC series at Thomas
THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Blue Mountain Christian dropped the first two games of a Southern States Athletic Conference series at Thomas on Saturday, losing 9-2 in the opener and 5-2 in the nightcap, the school said.
Thomas opened the first game with an early push, scoring twice in the first inning and adding a solo home run in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Blue Mountain Christian cut the deficit in the third when Cody Presley drove in Jacob Bryant with an RBI single, and Yaidel Perez delivered an RBI single in the fifth to make it 4-2. Thomas added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win.
Perez led the Toppers offensively in game one, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Presley had an RBI, Jacob Bryant reached base four times with three walks and a hit by pitch, and Garrett Lance and Gavin Foley each recorded hits. Caleb Hall started and worked 4.2 innings with one strikeout, and Ryan Murphy provided 1.1 innings of relief.
In the second game, Thomas scored four runs in the first and added another in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead. Blue Mountain Christian rallied late: Jake Meilstrup went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and a run, Gates Gerhart hit an RBI double in the seventh, and Perez added a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Chris Matthews started for the Toppers; Jack Hearn tossed four scoreless relief innings with three strikeouts.
The series finale is scheduled for March 28 at 1 p.m. at Thomas University, the school said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
