Toppers complete four-game sweep of Williams Baptist

Blue Mountain Christian completed a four-game series sweep of Williams Baptist in Walnut Ridge, Ark., capping a dominant weekend highlighted by timely hitting and strong bullpen work, the school said.

Game 2 resumed at 10 a.m. Thursday after being suspended the previous day, and the Toppers won 6-5 in 10 innings, Blue Mountain Christian said. The team totaled 11 hits. Jake Meilstrup had a multi-hit effort and drove in two runs, Gavin Foley delivered a late-inning RBI and Jesse Hancock worked three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to earn the win.

Momentum carried into Friday’s doubleheader opener, when Blue Mountain Christian shut out Williams Baptist 5-0. Chris Matthews went seven scoreless innings and struck out seven, the release said. RBIs came from Cody Presley, Trace Roy and Jarret Morris, while Garrett Lance drove in two runs to help provide separation.

The Toppers closed the series with a 13-8 victory in Game 4, erupting for 13 runs on 11 hits. Meilstrup homered and drove in three runs, Reise Thomas added a triple and Foley had two more RBIs, Blue Mountain Christian said. With the sweep complete, the Toppers will return home next weekend to host highly ranked Georgia Gwinnett College. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
