Toppers battle to final buzzer, fall 77-74 to Tennessee Southern

PULASKI, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian fell 77-74 Friday night to Tennessee Southern in a Southern States Athletic Conference game after a late surge by the Toppers made the outcome uncertain until the final seconds.

Tennessee Southern built an early lead by converting efficient possessions, but Blue Mountain Christian stayed within reach and trailed by a slim margin at halftime. The Toppers came out of the break with renewed energy, cutting into the deficit in the third quarter as improved ball movement and shot selection paid off.

Blue Mountain Christian poured in 26 points in the fourth quarter, matching Tennessee Southern shot for shot and forcing a one-possession finish. Rebecca Walter led the Toppers with a game-high 21 points. McKenzie Williams recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Kathryn Echols hit four three-pointers on her way to 14 points, and Maddie Kirk added 14. Isabella Carlson contributed five rebounds and four assists.

The Toppers will host Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College on Monday at 5:30 p.m. for Senior Day. Blue Mountain Christian officials provided the game details and statistics.
