Teague delivers walk-off, Toppers sweep Brewton-Parker
BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Aspen Teague delivered a walk-off RBI single in the seventh inning as Blue Mountain Christian University completed an SSAC doubleheader sweep of Brewton-Parker on Saturday, winning the nightcap 4-3 after taking the opener 7-5.
In Game 1, Brewton-Parker scored in the first before Blue Mountain answered with five runs in the second. Vaye Savage drove in a run with a single and Mikaylah Fuqua followed with a three-run triple to give the Toppers a 5-1 lead.
Brewton-Parker chipped away with two runs in the third and two more in the sixth, but Blue Mountain added insurance on an RBI single by Fuqua in the fourth and an RBI single by Teague in the sixth. The Toppers totaled 11 hits; Fuqua went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Neely Barrier had two hits and scored twice, and Gail Wisher recorded two hits.
Janna Shaw earned the win in Game 1, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing five runs, three earned. Madison Montgomery closed with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief for the save.
In Game 2, Kelsey Camp drove in the Toppers’ first run with a sacrifice fly in the first, but Brewton-Parker answered with three runs to take a 3-1 lead. Blue Mountain began its rally in the fifth when Barrier drove in a run, and Wisher scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to tie the game.
Teague finished the comeback in the bottom of the seventh, lining a walk-off RBI single through the right side to score Fuqua. Blue Mountain collected eight hits in the nightcap; Lakyn Nichols had two, and Teague and Barrier each drove in runs.
Bri Langley started Game 2 and allowed three runs over four innings. Montgomery earned the relief win, throwing three innings while allowing one hit and striking out three.
The sweep gives the Toppers momentum as they continue SSAC play. Blue Mountain visits Point University on March 27. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
