Lary Aaron headlines Legacy League Hot Stove event in Jackson

JACKSON — Lary Aaron, son of baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron, will appear April 3 at a Hot Stove event in Jackson to support the inaugural season of the Legacy League, organizers announced. The event, sponsored by Colombean Coffee, is set for 2 p.m. at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. It is free and open to the public.

The program will feature a one-hour interview session, a question-and-answer segment and autograph opportunities with former professional players, organizers said. Other scheduled guests include former Atlanta Braves and NFL standout Brian Jordan, World Series champion Marquis Grissom and former Braves pitcher Jair Jurrjens.

Aaron played outfield at Florida A&M University and was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 32nd round of the 1981 Major League Baseball draft, according to organizers. He spent two seasons in the Braves’ minor league system before moving into a long scouting career that included nearly two decades with the Milwaukee Brewers organization.

Organizers said Aaron has remained active mentoring athletes and promoting values associated with his father’s legacy, including integrity and dedication to the sport. The appearance is part of a promotional push ahead of the launch of the Legacy League, a developmental baseball league designed to provide opportunities for collegiate players.

Organizers said league play is scheduled to begin May 26 with a 28-game season to be held at Smith-Wills Stadium. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
