Lady Toppers drop first match to Cumberland
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian University’s Lady Toppers dropped their first match of the season Friday, falling 3-4 to Cumberland (Tenn.) in a closely contested meet.
Cumberland took the doubles point, but BMCU responded with three singles victories. Camila Mordiz won on Court 1, 6-4, 6-0. Lina Cetina prevailed on Court 3, 6-4, 0-6, 13-11, and Nami Malyaporn earned a Court 6 victory, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
All three of BMCU’s doubles teams dropped their matches. Eugenia Ramos retired during her match on Court 2, and Valeria Manquillo and Lucia Rodriguez Garcia were defeated in singles play.
The Lady Toppers had been scheduled to face Christian Brothers later Friday, but CBU withdrew because of sickness, the team said. BMCU is 2-1 and returns to action Saturday, Feb. 21, against Rhodes College in Memphis at 1 p.m. CT.
