Cooper throws no-hitter as Toppers sweep Thomas

Neely Cooper threw a five-inning no-hitter and Blue Mountain Christian University swept a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader at Thomasville, Georgia, on Saturday, the school said.

The Toppers opened the day with a 12-3 victory in game one, collecting 17 hits and scoring in five innings to build a big lead. Kelsey Camp drove in the game’s first run with an RBI double in the first inning, and Aspen Teague capped a four-run second with a three-run triple, Blue Mountain Christian said.

Teague finished with three hits and two RBIs, Camp had three hits and two RBIs, and Maryn Macri had two hits and two RBIs. Anna Harrison scored three times in the opener. Madison Montgomery earned the win, throwing a complete five-inning game while allowing three runs on four hits, the school reported.

Cooper dominated in game two, striking out five, issuing one walk and inducing 10 groundouts in an 8-0 run-rule victory. Blue Mountain Christian scored five runs in the first inning, and Harrison scored the first run to register her 41st run of the season, a new BMCU single-season record, the program said. Mikaylah Fuqua had two hits and two runs, Teague had two hits and an RBI, and Camp and Neely Barrier drove in runs.

With the sweep, Blue Mountain Christian continues SSAC play and is scheduled to visit William Carey on April 2 at 3 p.m., the school said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
