Cooper earns SSAC pitcher of week after five-inning no-hitter
MONTGOMERY, Alabama — Blue Mountain Christian pitcher Neely Cooper has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week after throwing a five-inning no-hitter against Thomas University, the school announced Monday.
Cooper allowed one walk, struck out five batters and faced only 19 hitters in the outing, improving her record to 5-1 on the season. She completed the effort on 70 pitches and recorded 10 groundouts, limiting Thomas’ offensive opportunities.
“Nobody deserves this honor more than Neely Cooper. She has been the ultimate team player over the past two years. Her teammates love her and trust her in big moments. She loves to compete and thrives when pressure is on. We are very proud of her and honored that she pitches for BMCU,” Blue Mountain Christian head coach Matt Brunet said.
The SSAC is a collegiate athletic conference that sponsors competition among smaller institutions in the southeastern United States. Cooper’s performance provides a boost to Blue Mountain Christian’s pitching staff as the Toppers continue conference play. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
