Blue Mountain falls to Tennessee Southern in SSAC basketball game
Blue Mountain College lost to Tennessee Southern 69-60 in a Southern States Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at Tyler Gymnasium.
The Toppers started strong, trading baskets early and keeping the game close through the first quarter. Both teams exchanged momentum in the second quarter, but Tennessee Southern pulled ahead late in the half.
After halftime, Blue Mountain showed resilience on defense and tried to close the gap, responding to Firehawk runs with timely baskets and stops. Despite their effort and physical play inside, Tennessee Southern secured the victory in the fourth quarter.
Maddie Kirk led Blue Mountain offensively with 17 points. Rebecca Walter had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Lena Taylor scored 12 points, and Kathryn Echols added 11 points while helping run the offense.
The Toppers displayed balanced scoring and competed throughout the game against a conference rival. Blue Mountain’s next game is on the road at Life University on January 15.
