Blue Mountain Christian beats Williams Baptist 8-2; game two suspended

Blue Mountain Christian defeated Williams Baptist 8-2 on Thursday in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, the school’s athletic department said, as balanced hitting and a complete-game outing from Benji Webb powered the Toppers to a road victory.

Cody Presley opened the scoring with a two-run homer in the first, and Williams Baptist tied the game in the third when Lawson Aaron delivered a two-run single that chased in Will Riley and Gavin Mink, the release said.

Blue Mountain Christian reclaimed the lead in the fourth on an RBI single by Gates Gerhart and a bases-loaded hit by Reise Thomas that brought home Gerhart. Trace Roy added a sacrifice fly in the fifth and a two-run single in the sixth, and a later defensive error by Williams Baptist allowed Roy to score again for an 8-2 cushion.

Presley finished with two hits and two RBIs, Roy drove in three and Jarret Morris collected multiple hits, the school reported. Webb went the distance, allowing two runs on eight hits with three strikeouts to pick up the win.

Game two of the doubleheader was suspended and will resume tomorrow morning in the eighth inning, the release said. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details become available.
