Mississippi holds primary; voters decide November ballot
Mississippi holds primary elections, and polls are open until 7 p.m., a Facebook post said. The post encouraged residents to participate, saying, “It’s Primary Day in Mississippi — and it’s your chance to decide who appears on the ballot in November. Polls are open until 7pm. Go vote, Mississippi!”
Primary elections allow voters affiliated with political parties to choose their party’s nominees for the November general election. Winners of those primaries will appear on the ballot in November, shaping the choices available to all voters in the general election.
Primaries can determine the direction of local, state and federal contests and are often decisive in areas where one party dominates. Participation in primaries influences which candidates advance and can affect policy priorities and party control in legislatures and executive offices.
Voters who plan to participate should consult their local election office for polling locations, identification requirements and any other rules. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
