Mississippi auditor’s office passes audit by outside CPA firm
JACKSON, Miss. — State Auditor Shad White announced Friday that the Mississippi Office of the State Auditor passed an audit conducted by an out-of-state private CPA firm hired by the Mississippi Legislature’s PEER Committee.
The Baton Rouge, Louisiana, firm EisenRamper LLP conducted the review, White said. “Last year the legislature chose to appropriate money to hire an auditor to audit our office,” White said. “While we did not ask for the audit, I welcomed it, and I’m pleased to report the audit came back so clean you could eat your supper off of it.”
White credited the office staff for the result. “I really haven’t seen many audits this clean in my time on the job, so the credit goes to the men and women who work at the Auditor’s Office,” he said. He also said the office asked for and received $1 million less from the general fund last year and continues to operate “effectively and efficiently.”
The Office of the State Auditor oversees audits of state agencies and public funds. The Legislature’s PEER Committee — which oversees performance reviews and can commission outside audits — hired the private firm for this review. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
