Audit finds Mississippi has second-highest car tag fees
State Auditor Shad White released a report showing Mississippi has the second-highest car tag fees in the country, a Facebook post promoting an interview said Thursday.
The post, titled “Dave Elliott Car Tag Interview,” encouraged readers to listen to an interview about the audit and what state officials can do to reduce car tag fees for Mississippians, the post said.
State auditors typically review government revenues and expenditures and issue findings that can prompt legislative or administrative responses. Car tag or vehicle registration fees fund a variety of state and local services, including transportation projects and motor vehicle operations, and higher fees can increase households’ cost of ownership and commuting expenses.
The Facebook post did not include details of specific proposals. The interview referenced in the post may discuss potential policy steps such as legislative changes or administrative reforms. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
