Two suspects arrested in Lowndes County for burglary, arson
Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies arrested two men Tuesday in connection with a burglary, vehicle break-in and arson, authorities said.
Jonathan Paul Shumaker, 35, and Darin Wayne Haynes Jr., 38, were taken into custody after deputies responded to a report of suspects removing items from a storage building at 7293 Highway 45 North in Columbus around 4:54 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators linked the men to an earlier incident that day, when surveillance footage showed them breaking into a vehicle and vandalizing Nate’s Body Shop at 7482 Highway 45 North around 2:30 a.m. The video reportedly shows the suspects breaking a window, setting an object on fire and throwing it inside the business, causing minor damage.
Haynes was on probation and was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the arrest. Both suspects are being held at the Lowndes County Detention Center and are awaiting their initial court appearances, authorities said.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, officials said.
