Severe weather threatens Mississippi

A Facebook post warned that the entire state of Mississippi is at risk for severe weather beginning Sunday evening, March 15, 2026, and lasting into the early morning hours of Monday, March 16.

The post said Mississippi could experience severe storms, damaging winds up to 70 mph, quarter-size hail and that tornadoes are possible. It urged residents to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive alerts and know their safe place.

Mississippi is prone to severe spring storms and tornadoes, driven by seasonal clashes of warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico and cooler air masses from the north. Severe outbreaks in the region can bring widespread wind damage, large hail and brief but intense tornadoes, making preparedness important for residents and local officials.

Officials and weather services typically advise residents to monitor local forecasts, secure outdoor items and prepare an emergency kit with water, medicines and flashlights. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
