Post highlights 97,000 adults reported missing annually
A Facebook post on Monday noted that more than 97,000 adults are reported missing in the United States each year and urged greater attention to those cases.
The post said, “Behind every number is a person with a story—and people who are waiting, searching, and hoping for answers,” and added, “Every case matters. Every person matters. Every effort matters.” The message included hashtags such as #AdultMissingPersons and #ReuniteMississippi to encourage awareness and community involvement.
Advocates and law enforcement officials say missing-adult cases can receive less media and public attention than cases involving children, even though they often raise complex investigative and welfare questions. Federal and local agencies, along with resources such as the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, provide tools to help locate missing adults and assist families.
The Facebook post serves as a reminder to keep attention on cases that do not make headlines and to support efforts to find missing people. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
