Pike County sheriff thanks residents, agencies for storm response

Pike County Sheriff Wally Jones expressed gratitude to residents and emergency responders for their efforts during severe storms and flooding over the weekend, which prompted extensive rescue operations.

Jones reported that all residents were rescued safely and no injuries were reported. He praised citizens who stepped up to help neighbors amid the crisis and thanked Tina Reed, the county’s emergency management director, for her tireless work.

The sheriff also acknowledged support from Pike County Supervisor Jake Gazzo and the board of supervisors. He credited local volunteer fire departments and the McComb Fire Department for their hard work during dangerous conditions.

Jones highlighted the collaboration with Sheriff Jason Ard of the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Department. When fire equipment began failing due to overuse, Ard’s team responded quickly, providing boats and personnel to assist in rescues in Pike and Walthall counties.

Jones emphasized the importance of the Parish/County Line Task Force, which facilitates cooperation among agencies during emergencies. He reaffirmed Pike County’s commitment to the task force and thanked everyone who helped during the storm.

“My hat’s off to each and every one of you,” Jones said. “Thank you, and God bless.”
