NWS warns of slight severe-weather threat for Mississippi

The National Weather Service is forecasting a slight threat of severe weather across Mississippi on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, saying damaging winds, hail and tornadoes are possible.

The agency said the risk is Level 2 out of 5, a designation the NWS uses to indicate a “slight” risk of organized severe storms that could produce localized damage. The forecast was posted on social media and urges residents to monitor updates.

The National Weather Service is the federal agency responsible for issuing watches, warnings and forecasts for hazardous weather. A slight risk does not guarantee severe weather but signals that conditions could become dangerous for portions of the state, especially where storms strengthen or organize.

Officials advise residents to stay weather aware, keep up with local forecasts and have a safety plan that includes a sheltered interior location away from windows. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
