National Weather Service issues slight risk for severe storms
The National Weather Service said it issued a slight risk for severe storms for parts of the state this afternoon (March 9, 2026), warning residents that hail, damaging winds and a tornado cannot be ruled out.
The agency, which provides forecasts and warnings for the United States, uses categorical convective outlooks to communicate severe-weather potential. A “slight risk” generally indicates the possibility of scattered severe storms capable of producing localized but significant impacts.
The advisory said everyone in the affected area has the potential to see severe storms and urged people to remain weather-aware and check updates throughout the day. Residents are advised to monitor local radio, television and official social media accounts for watches and warnings, have a plan for where to take shelter and secure loose outdoor objects ahead of strong winds.
Local emergency managers and broadcasters typically provide additional, location-specific guidance as storms approach. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
