Mississippi ranks among most bored states
Mississippi residents rank No. 4 in the nation for what researchers call “boredom loops,” according to a national survey by Solitaired that measured how repetitive daily routines affect motivation and technology use.
The study found 61% of Mississippi respondents said their lives feel repetitive, the third-highest rate in the country. Sixty-five percent said repetitive routines are mentally exhausting, and 61% reported feeling less motivated at work when their days feel the same, the survey said.
Screen use appeared closely tied to those feelings. The survey found 74% of Mississippi residents scroll on their phones multiple times a day to escape boredom, the highest percentage nationwide. Another 84% said they spend more time scrolling or watching television when their days feel repetitive, a figure that ranked third nationally.
Researchers said thousands of Americans were surveyed about daily habits, how often they feel bored and what activities they turn to when life feels monotonous. Responses were scored on a 0–100 scale, with higher scores indicating stronger patterns of repetitive routines and boredom. The findings suggest routine fatigue and digital habits may reinforce a cycle for many Americans. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
