Violent crime declined by 13.38 percent, property crime fell by 20.2 percent, and overall crime decreased by 18.86 percent, according to police data. The department reports 654 fewer crimes compared to 2024.
Jones credited the department’s staff and community members for the improvements, emphasizing the importance of public partnership in crime prevention.
For the first time in years, Jackson’s homicide rate has dropped into double digits, a stark contrast to previous years when homicides exceeded 100 and neared 150. Still, Jones said even a single loss is too many and expressed condolences for families affected by violence.
