Jackson County deputy Mike Jimerson killed responding to disturbance call
Mike Jimerson, a Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy, was shot and killed Wednesday night while responding to a disturbance call, Sheriff John Ledbetter said.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that “words can’t convey what we are feeling this morning upon learning of the death of Mike Jimerson, a Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy.” The post said Jimerson “always had a smile on his face and a friendly hello” and offered prayers for his family, “his family in blue,” and others who loved and respected him.
The loss of a deputy is deeply felt by the local community and law enforcement colleagues. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for the county and responds to a wide range of emergency calls; deputies face risks while performing public safety duties.
Sheriff Ledbetter confirmed the deputy was shot and killed while on the disturbance call, and authorities have not released additional details. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
