Commentator says Minneapolis breaking news overshadows Mississippi winter storm coverage
A commentator in a Facebook reel said they appeared on Fox to discuss historic winter storms in Mississippi, but breaking news from Minneapolis shifted the focus of coverage, the post said.
In the post, the commentator described what they called “mobs of anarchists and radicals” they said are “terrorizing American cities” and wrote that those groups “need to go home,” including a reference to “Mogadishu.” The post also urged Mississippians to “stay safe and warm” and expressed relief that streets were being closed by sleet and snow rather than by Antifa, according to the reel.
Historic winter storms can bring sleet, heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions that disrupt schools, businesses and utilities. Such weather typically draws significant local and national media attention because of its immediate impact on public safety and infrastructure.
Breaking events in other cities can quickly pull national broadcast coverage away from weather stories, particularly when reports describe unrest or large demonstrations. Coverage of groups labeled Antifa has been politically contentious, with supporters and critics offering sharply different accounts of activities and motivations.
