Columbus police responded to a gunshot victim at the intersection of 8th Avenue North and 15th Street North around 3:50 p.m., authorities said.
Chief Joseph Daughtry and Officer Bryan Moore arrived first and provided aid, including applying a tourniquet to control bleeding.
Initial reports indicate the victim sustained what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the hand and leg. The individual was transported to Birmingham Heart Medical for treatment. The investigation remains ongoing.
