Breezy northwest winds, low humidity raise fire danger today

Breezy northwest winds, somewhat dry fuels and low relative humidity will create significant fire danger concerns today, Darkhorse Press reported. Quiet weather is expected through Wednesday, but officials say the combination of wind and dry vegetation could allow fires to spread rapidly where ignitions occur.

After a chilly start to the week, another warmup is expected mid and late week, with a cold front currently forecast to affect the area Thursday. The front brings increasing chances for rain Thursday into Thursday night, followed by quieter conditions Friday into the weekend.

These meteorological factors—gusty winds, low humidity and dry fuels—heighten the risk of wildfire ignition and rapid spread. Residents and outdoor workers should exercise caution with open flames, yard debris burning and equipment that can produce sparks, and should monitor local fire agencies and weather services for advisories.

In wildfire forecasting, “fuels” refers to the grasses, brush and other vegetation that carry fire. The forecast information came from Darkhorse Press. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
