Wicker, Hyde-Smith back NCAA supporting only biological women in women’s sports
Aug. 7, 2024 – U.S. Senators Roger Wicker, R-Miss., Cindy Hyde-Smith, R-Miss., and colleagues have asked National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) President Charlie Baker to adopt policies that protect women’s sports. Specifically, the senators have asked Baker to update the associate’s student-athlete participation policy to require that only biological women can participate in NCAA women’s sports.
Senator Wicker and Hyde-Smith are also cosponsors of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023, which would preserve Title IX protections for female athletes and ensure fair, safe competition in women’s sports across the country. In addition, Senator Hyde-Smith introduced and Senator Wicker cosponsored a Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval to overturn the Biden administration’s rewrite of Title IX.
The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, Concerned Women for America, Heritage Action, and Independent Council on Women’s Sports have endorsed the letter.
The letter is led by U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.
