Water Contact Advisory for Gibbs Creek in Grenada County
June 21 – The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) is issuing a water contact advisory following the release of wastewater into Gibbs Creek in Grenada County.
The advisory covers a section of Gibbs Creek from MS-8 to where it meets with Grenada Lake and its crossing with Old MS-8 (see attached map). Grenada Lake itself is not included in this advisory.
The advisory is being issued due to a sewage bypass which has since been repaired.
MDEQ recommends that people avoid water contact recreational activities such as swimming, wading, and fishing in these waters. MDEQ will follow up with monitoring and will revise the advisory as needed.
