Dec 13, 2024- During a recent awards ceremony, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) recognized employees in District 2 (Batesville), which covers 17 northern Mississippi counties, for their years of continuous service to the agency in various roles including maintenance, administration and construction, among others.
Forty-four employees were honored for their years of service at the ceremony. Steven Mays, a Transportation Engineering Technician with the Winona Project office, was recognized for 40 years of service.
“I am grateful for all of our employees and thank them for their hard work and loyalty to MDOT,” said Commissioner John Caldwell, Northern Transportation District. “Our employees are true professionals, and their valuable daily contributions allow for our continued successes.”
Steven Mays began his career with MDOT in 1983 as a State Service Trainee with the Winona Project Office. He was promoted to Engineer Aide I in 1985 and Engineer Aide II in 1992. In 1998 he gained his first reclassification to become a Transportation Engineer Technician II and was then promoted to Transportation Engineering Technician IV.
“Over the years I’ve loved learning new aspects of my job, working with engineers has provided me with welcomed challenges,” said Mays. “Most of all I enjoy working with the public, answering their questions and helping in any way I can.”
District 2 Engineer Mitch Turner was also recognized for 35 years of service with MDOT. He and Mays plan to retire in the coming year.
