Aug. 30, 2024 – State Treasurer David McRae yesterday concluded his statewide tour, marking $100 million returned to Mississippians through the Unclaimed Money program. Over the last month, McRae made stops in Jackson, Southaven, Tupelo, Hattiesburg, and Gulfport where he helped residents identify hundreds of thousands of dollars in unclaimed money.
“I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who came out to celebrate this milestone and search for their own unclaimed money over the last month,” said McRae. “During the tour, we helped Mississippians find about $300,000 in unclaimed money. The Unclaimed Money program has come a long way over the last four years. We have modernized the system, rolled out a new e-claims program, and educated the public about the availability of this money. That said, we aren’t done yet. Our team remains dedicated to finding new ways to find and return unclaimed money to you faster than ever before.”
Treasurer McRae has made fiscal responsibility and small government a focus of his tenure. In addition to returning $100 million through the unclaimed money program, an economic stimulus that doesn’t cost taxpayer dollars, the Treasurer:
- Helped the state earn around $375 million in interest income from investments during FY2024 to stretch your tax dollars further,
- Increased the MPACT Legacy Plan’s funding to 99.7% (up from 72% when he took office),
- Saved taxpayers more than $100 million through debt refinancing deals, and
- Protected the state’s strong credit rating.
