Man Charged After Attempting to Cash Forged Check at Tupelo Bank
Tupelo, Miss. – The Tupelo Police Department has charged a man after he allegedly attempted to cash a forged check at a local bank earlier this week.
According to authorities, Adam Jones, 31, tried to cash a check purportedly issued by a local business at Renasant Bank on South Industrial Road. Police say the check appeared suspicious, prompting bank employees to contact the business listed on it for verification.
Representatives from the business responded to the bank and confronted Jones. Before officers arrived, Jones reportedly fled the scene on foot.
Investigators later identified and charged Jones with uttering forgery, a felony offense under Mississippi law.
The Tupelo Police Department has not released the name of the business involved, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Authorities remind residents and local businesses to exercise caution when handling checks and to verify authenticity if there is any suspicion of fraud.
