Warming centers remain open through Monday amid dangerous cold
Warming centers will remain open through Monday (2.2.26) because of continued dangerous cold weather, a Facebook post said. The Poplarville Community Saferoom at 124 Rodeo Street is open 24 hours a day. The Picayune Community Saferoom at 501 Laurel Street is open each evening from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.
The post said pets are not allowed. It urged people to bring anything they may need, including food and water.
Warming centers provide temporary refuge for people without heat or shelter during periods of extreme cold and are commonly activated by local emergency management or community organizations. Such centers help reduce risks of hypothermia and other cold-related health issues by offering heated space and basic shelter.
The Facebook post listed locations, hours and the pet policy but did not identify which agency is operating the sites. Residents should monitor local channels for updates and guidance. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
