Vicksburg police respond to early-morning crash, shooting

The Vicksburg Police Department said in a March 29, 2026, release that officers responded to a three-vehicle crash at about 2:46 a.m. at Clay Street and Old Highway 27 near a Circle K convenience store. One of the vehicles involved caught fire and injuries were reported, though the department said the extent of those injuries is unknown.

While officers were responding to the crash, the release said, shots were fired at about 3:00 a.m. in the same general area near the Circle K. Officers located multiple shell casings at the scene, and the department said there have been no reported injuries connected to the shooting.

Preliminary information indicates the police department that the crash and the shooting do not appear to be related, but both incidents remain under active investigation, the release said. The department is asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact Vicksburg Police Department or Crime Stoppers at (601) 355-TIPS (8477).

Vicksburg is a city on the Mississippi River in western Mississippi. Early-morning crashes and separate reports of gunfire can heighten public safety concerns, and investigators often seek witness accounts and surveillance footage. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
