Tupelo man faces kidnapping charge after allegedly holding ex-girlfriend

TUPELO, Mississippi — A Tupelo man has been charged with kidnapping after police say a woman reported she was being held against her will by her ex-boyfriend.

Officers responded March 18 to the area of Ballard Park after an individual told them a friend had contacted them and said she was being restrained and that the former boyfriend might be armed, police said. Responding officers were given a description of a vehicle and located it a short time later on Mitchell Road, authorities said.

The suspect was initially taken into custody on misdemeanor charges, and after further investigation William H. McCord, 32, of Tupelo, was arrested March 20 and charged with one count of kidnapping, police said. Tupelo Municipal Judge Weir ordered McCord held without bond the same day.

The case will be presented to the Lee County grand jury, according to police. Kidnapping is generally a felony involving the unlawful restraint of a person; prosecutions and potential penalties vary by jurisdiction. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
